My name is Janelle Shively and I have been riding horses since I was 2 1/2. I started riding with my mom on her horse. I got my first pony for my 3rd birthday, a black shetland. I out grew my pony and got a horse when I was 9 years old. Her name is Sis, we have learned a lot together over the past 6 years. Sis and I are in the picture above during a 4H show.

I am an apprentice under my grandpa, he is a John & Josh Lyons Certified trainer. I was given a 6 year old Arabian, I named her Faith and she is not trained. I am learning how to train with my grandpa. Let me tell you it is not as easy as it looks you have to really work hard. Grandpa gives me an exercise to work on with Faith, and as I work at it, he watches me to help me if I need it.

Working Faith
First we did the ground work, it took several sessions before she started responding good.
Once Faith figured out what I was asking her she became willing. Then came the riding, on her second
ride I had her trotting some. It has been hard work but she is doing great. But we are a long way from done!
