Cricket, Sky, & John

Mid Michigan in Birch Run Michigan 2006
"how to make a good horse a better horse"

This story of Cricket & Sky started at the Mid Michigan Expo 2005.
Cricket brought Sky to the expo for John Lyons to use as
an unbroken horse. They wanted to use the fact that John
started Sky as a selling point. Little did everyone know
this was beginning of a success story.

Cricket shares with the people what she has been doing with Sky since the 2005 expo with John.

Sky and Cricket learned together for 3 months.
Cricket came faithfully every week from Birch Run
to learn with Sky.

This is a recent email sent to Jack from Cricket

Jack,
I just got home from search and rescue training and couldn't wait to send you these pics. We did a victim search and recovery in the woods, when we found the victim two of us that were on horse back rode back to the command post and carried supplies back to the rescue team. We loaded all the equipment onto a sked board and secured everything down then I took a long rope tied it to the sked board and drug it threw the woods behind Sky. She never flinched, she walked off like she had been doing it her entire life. When we were finished with the rescue I took a long piece of rope with me and just went out through the trails, I started just dropping the rope in front of her the started throwing it out to the front and both sides she doesn't care. I dragged a 10 foot long tree branch up the trail it was bumping into her and part of it was under her and she never missed a step.
The doctor who is in charge of the team says he feels Sky qualified on at least a fourth of the search and rescue criteria today. Not bad for a horse that has been ridden less than nine months.
