Apprenticeship Program

 


General Information

* The Apprenticeship Program consists of 4 sessions, 3 groups
* Each session will last one week, with a three week study time at home
* The cost of each session is $800.00, to be paid the first day of each session
* A deposit of the last session (800.00) is required to hold a spot
* Each session needs to be paid at the beginning of each session
* Total cost of the program is $3,200.00
* No more than 4 participants per session
* Participants are encouraged bring one unbroke or green horse (no stallions)
* A coggins test is required
* The same horse should be used for all sessions
* Travel, Lodging,and meals are your responsibility
* Stalls are $5.00 each per day, includes bedding

* Information on feed stores in the area will be available
* There is an electric, and water hook up (no sewer) at our barn for a $10.00 a day charge,    limited to two trailers

Session I


The first week of the Apprenticeship Program will cover the following:
  • Round Pen Exercises
         Gaining control
         Building Trust
         Come to you cue
         Bridling
  • Ground Exercises.
         Disengaging
         Go forward Cue
         Give to the bit
         Head down Cue
         Standing quiet
         Sacking out
         Prepare for saddling

    Participants will go home for three weeks and practice the lessons and come back for the second session. We will go over the lessons learned in Session I before we go on to Session II
Session II


The second week of the Apprenticeship Program will cover the following:
  • Prepare horse for riding through Ground Control
         Disengaging the hips
         Hip-shoulder-shoulder
         Directional control
        

    Participants will go home for three weeks and practice the lessons and come back for the third session. We will go over the lessons learned in Session II before we go on to Session III.
Session III


The third week of the Apprenticeship Program will cover the following:
  • Riding Exercises
         Directional control
         Speed control
         Softness
         Shoulder control
        

    Participants will go home for three weeks and practice the lessons and come back for the fourth session. We will go over the lessons learned in Session III before we go on to Session IV.
Session IV


The fourth week of the Apprenticeship Program will cover the following:
  • Riding Exercises continued
         Turning on the forehand
         Turning on the haunches
         Side pass
         Head set
         Calm down cue
         Lead changes 
       
    Upon completing the Apprenticeship Program participants will have the tools to put a good start on their horse using the step by step Conditioned Response Exercises.

    *
    Gain control of the horse with communication through the reins.

    * Learn how to teach the horse to be soft in the bit.
    * Get the desired response whenever you pick up on the reins.
    * Control of the individual parts of the horse.
    * Gain the confidence to control the horse in any situation.

    Advanced Training will be available by arrangement at the end of completing sessions I, II, III, & IV

The Apprenticeship Program is designed to help you become a partner with your horse instead of being a passenger.

Questions are encouraged.

This program is designed to help you become a trainer by working independently on problem solving where it pertains to training horses.

You will only get out of it what you put into it.
